This webinar will deal with 4 Guidelines published by the Sentencing Council as follows:

  • Miscellaneous Amendments to Guidelines - with effect from 1 April 2023
  • 12 new Guidelines in relation to Road Traffic Offences - with effect from 1 July 2023
  • Guidelines on Witness Intimidation - with effect from 1 October 2023
  • Guidelines on Perverting the Course of Justice with effect from 1 October 2023

  • The amendments made regarding disqualifications for those offenders having 12 or more points on their licence

  • The amendments concerning criminal damage

  • New guidelines in relation to causing death by dangerous driving now that the maximum sentence has been increased for this offence from 14 years to discretionary life
  • New guidelines in relation to causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs now that the maximum sentence has been increased from 14 years to life
  • Guidelines for the first time ever on the relatively new offence of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving
  • Guidelines as to how to arrive at the appropriate sentence when dealing with witness intimidation
  • Guidelines as to how to arrive at the appropriate sentence when dealing with perverting the course of justice
