There are more than 20,000 charities that exist for religious purposes, their activities extend locally, nationally, and internationally. Whilst their existence may be known, the intricacies of their culture and inner workings may seem mysterious and opaque to the outsider dealing with them.


This virtual classroom seminar will provide an outline of the distinctive features of religious charities as well as practical information to give an understanding of their functions, strengths, and weaknesses. Drawing on the findings from recent cases including Christ Church Oxford, Central Gurdwara and the Saint George Educational Trust the session will also consider the impact of public perception, allegations, regulatory interventions, and reputational damage.
