Course description

Since the Pandemic, there has been a 26% increase in dog attacks. Hospital admissions have risen and 11 people died between from dog bites between Jan 2022 and Dec 2023. These figures continue to rise and attract significant media interest.


From 1 February 2024 it will be illegal to own an XL bully type without a certificate of exemption. It is therefore expected that seizures of suspected dangerous dogs will increase. It follows that legal cases involving dangerous dogs will also increase.


This virtual classroom seminar with District Crown Prosecutor Kate Carlyle is designed to provide practical assistance on how to deal with cases involving the seizure of dogs and management of cases involving dangerous dogs.

XL bullies will be added to the banned breed types listed under Dangerous Dogs Act by 31 December 2023. From 1 February 2024 it will be illegal to own an XL bully type without a certificate of exemption. It is therefore expected that seizures of suspected dangerous dogs will increase. It follows that legal cases involving dangerous dogs will also increase.
