Presented by expert training consultant John Trimbos, this virtual classroom seminar will provide you with the opportunity to critique your writing styles, so that you can edit out gender-specific language and adopt a modern gender neutral approach.
John will provide you with techniques for avoiding gender-specific pronouns, and instead using impersonal constructions such as ‘the/that’ instead of ‘he/she’. The use of defined gender neutral terms will also be discussed, and the session will wrap up with miscellaneous drafting exercises and questions.

What You Will Learn
This live and interactive session will cover the following:
- Starter exercise - eliminating gender specific pronouns in a sentence
- Techniques for avoiding gender specific pronouns - repeating, changing and rephrasing
- Using impersonal constructions such as ‘the/that’ instead of ‘he/she’
- Cases where you can omit pronouns entirely
- Use of the passive voice (with extreme caution)
- Use of defined gender neutral terms
- Wrap-up - miscellaneous drafting exercises and questions
