Course description

Oil Painting (Advanced)

This is a practical and ideas-based course and you will learn with the help of tutor demonstrations, groups critiques and individual guidance. The course is project-based, with projects running for a half or full term. Each project combines technical advances with an exploration of ideas of what oil painting can be in the 21st Century. You will work with a range of sources; direct observation, gallery visits, from photography and film.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You should have a solid grounding in oil painting properties.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

New techniques and working processes will be introduced, but the emphasis will shift towards a more in-depth focus on developing a personal language. We will look at how information (research) can be collected and developed, and how to identify your aims and produce a coherent body of work. We will look at the work of other artists, especially those working today, and at the ideas and context behind their work, so that you are able to place your open work in a critical and theoretical context
