Course description
This course provides a foundation in various media, pencil, charcoal, pastels but particularly painting in acrylics, from which they can move on to other creative courses within the institute, such as pottery and stained glass. Learners who have attended our courses have progressed on to degree courses, have acquired the skills and confidence to run small businesses, sell and exhibit their work or help with their current employment. The course enables learners to explore their own artistic ability and gain confidence in valuable practical skills, whether new or renewed. This course is suitable for beginners to intermediate level.
This 30 week course covers a broad range of drawing and painting techniques. During the course you will be introduced to basic colour theory and the techniques needed to use a wide range of materials such as pencil, charcoal and chalk pastels. We may also use watercolours and pen and ink. You will be encouraged to experiment with techniques in order to become confident in completing various projects. Learners should see this course as an opportunity to experiment with the techniques taught to produce original and personal pieces of work. Learners will be expected to follow the course programme and attend regularly to ensure progression.
