Seeing through Painting & Drawing: The course aims to provide a wide range of drawing and painting approaches for novices and intermediates alike. The sessions will aide you to build up drawing and painting expertise in a friendly and supportive environment. The overall aim is to guide you to �see� within the context of drawing and painting, which is different to our daily customary perception, which is deeply engrained in us since childhood. Exercising this different way of seeing will eventually give you the skill and confidence to master whatever you wish to draw and paint. Drawing exercises include line and shape, proportion, object and surround, composition and tonality using mainly still life set ups, the occasional human model and drawing plain air, if the weather allows. After half term the use of colour will be included. Media used will be pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, pastels and acrylic paint. Colour mixing will be explored at length and you will be able to define hue, value and saturation.
Focused exercises geared towards your level of ability will be given followed by with room for experimentation and taking your drawing/painting further.

There will be a mix of tutor demonstrations and formal 1:1 tuition. The teaching style is friendly, supportive and will allow you to develop your own personal way of drawing and painting. If you are a returning learner you will discuss your aims with your tutor and come up with some achievable personal targets for the course.

Learning outcomes:
� You will learn to draw and paint from 3-dimensional objects and photographs.
� You will learn to see tone and proportions, as well as object and surround, and to take composition and tonality into consideration.
� You will learn how mix a million colours from the three primary colours and three earth tones.
� You will learn to question and if necessary to correct your customary perception when drawing anything 3-dimensional.
