Course description
This HAZOP Leader (TÜV) course is the only training for HAZOP leaders worldwide that is certified by an accredited body. The course will develop and test the delegates’ knowledge, skills and behaviours for the effective leadership of process safety related HAZOP workshops.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Anyone with 5 years’ experience of the HAZOP technique who is required to lead HAZOP studies, and highly-experienced HAZOP leaders seeking an internationally-recognised certification.
Participants will be required to provide:
- Evidence of 5 years’ experience in HAZOPs including technical contribution, scribing and/or facilitation
- A copy of their university degree (master’s or bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline), or a reference letter from their employer indicating their engineer level responsibilities
- These will be reviewed to determine eligibility for the course.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
Candidates must have successfully demonstrated their leadership skills during the course’s activity-based continuous assessment to be eligible for the written examination. which takes place at the end of the course. The examination has a duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes and comprises two parts; part one is a written assessment (2 hours), part two is a combination of multiple-choice, multiple response and short answer questions (90 minutes).
The following requirements must be met for candidates to attain the HAZOP Leader (TÜV):
- a minimum of 5 years’ experience in HAZOP (HAZOP team member, HAZOP scribe, HAZOP facilitator)
- university degree (master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline) or equivalent engineer level responsibilities with status certified by employer
- attendance on the course
- successful completion of continuous assessment
- successful completion of the examination
On meeting these requirements, candidates will be issued with a PersCert TÜV certificate from TÜV Rheinland. The certificate is valid for 5 years.
Course delivery details
As current HAZOP leaders with extensive training experience, Risktec trainers draw upon their practical experience when delivering the training, providing examples of HAZOP leadership as applied in the real world.
The course can be delivered face-to-face in a classroom or via live virtual sessions using MS Teams, Skype for Business or Zoom, and the course may be delivered as a public scheduled course or as a closed course for a specific organisation.
The course materials comprise many activities designed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of participants and provide a hands-on learning experience, some of which will contribute to the continuous assessment. The slides provide useful reference material.
The course is delivered over four days, including assessment.
