Course description
Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services to people. As an experienced support worker, you carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical or therapeutic tasks, providing high quality, compassionate healthcare.You may work in a range of services such as hospitals, day case units, birth centres or midwifery led units, someone’s home, nursing or care homes, hospices, schools, prisons, GP surgeries; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.?This is an occupational qualification for learners who work in Healthcare Support roles in England, in the following areas of healthcare provision:Adult Nursing Maternity Support Theatre Support Children and Young People Mental Health Allied Health Profession Therapy Support

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will be asked to complete and pass initial assessments for Maths and English and a written piece of work. This is to determine if this level of study is appropriate.
You must be employed in a setting for the duration of the course. This is to show workplace competence and achieve End Point Assessment.
You will be required to achieve Maths and English at Level 2 prior to end point assessment, if not held already.
Training Course Content
On completion of this apprenticeship you will be a competent and job-ready Senior Healthcare Support Worker. You will be caring and compassionate, honest, conscientious and committed.?You will treat people with dignity, respecting individual's diversity, beliefs, culture, needs, values, privacy and preferences, show respect and empathy for those you work with, have the courage to challenge areas of concern and work to best practice, be adaptable, reliable and consistent, show discretion, show resilience and self-awareness and show supervisory leadership.
You will learn to assist registered healthcare practitioners with clinical or therapeutic tasks, promote physical and mental health and wellbeing, recognise issues and deteriorations in mental and physical health, and report and respond to these appropriately. This is just a brief example of what you will learn on this apprenticeship.
Course delivery details
Duration of the course is a minimum of 18 months, with a maximum of 24 months.
All learners must complete 20% off the job training as part of the apprenticeship requirements.

Continuing Studies
This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for employment and/or career progression in Healthcare.After a period of working and gaining experience, you may be able to work towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post or, providing you meet the entry requirements, apply to university to become a registered healthcare practitioner. Learners can also progress to the Level 5 Diploma for Assistant Practitioners in Healthcare providing they are in an appropriate job role.
