Course description

Train to work as a sports coach while being part of a football academy. Our Level 3 Extended Diploma at Writtle College includes dedicated coaching and game time.

As a student at Writtle College, you’ll benefit from our partnership with Leyton Orient FC, receiving professional football coaching and competing in games against other schools and colleges.

You’ll take part in eight hours of coaching and games per week, training in the morning and having lessons on the afternoon.

We’ve developed our course in consultation with employers and professional bodies. It’s endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), and maps to their professional standards of 'Coach' and 'Safeguarding and Protecting Children'. After successfully completing the course, you’ll be ready to work as a coach.

Suitability - Who should attend?

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 or A*-C; must include English, Maths and Science.
  • Satisfactory references from most recent school, college or employer.
  • Alternative qualifications or experience will be considered on application.

All abilities are welcome for this football academy course, but previous playing experience is an advantage.
