Course description

The C&G 2357-44 is an NVQ route suitable to those of you who hold C&G 2330 or C&G 2365 level 3

The C&G 2357-91 is an NVQ route suitable to those of you who hold C&G 8202 level 3 or fully completed theory units 2357-13 or 5357 or EAL Electrical Installation qualifications at level 3.

Able Skills has registered with City & Guilds to use an electronic portfolio system called Learning Assistant. This will enable us to assess you for NVQ level 3, wherever you are based in the UK.

The NVQ is achieved via work/site-based assessment, using an electronic portfolio of evidence, and also completing the AM2 assessment (booked separately). Full support and guidance from an Able Skills NVQ Assessor will be provided and readily available throughout. NVQ Level 3 is a requirement for those looking to achieve JIB Gold Card status.

What Youll Learn

The NVQ level 3 is not a training course; it is an assessment of your competence and is mandatory for those of you who require JIB Gold Card status. The NVQ is relatively easy to achieve as long as you are working within the electrical industry and have access to the right kind of work. Achievement of the C&G NVQ Level 3 in full is based upon existing qualifications, site/work-based assessments of competence and AM2 (booked separately).

How Youll Learn

The first step is to undertake a profiling session with your Electrical NVQ Assessor where the process for achieving an NVQ will be explained in detail. Moving forward and to achieve the NVQ, the evidence will need to include:

  • Photographic evidence of the work being undertaken (not just finished work!)
  • Written evidence of what you are doing on site and how you are covering the various unit criteria.
  • Document evidence including risk assessments, method statements, any other H&S information, test documentation, material schedules, permits, delivery notes, specifications, drawings, plans, diagrams and manufacturers instructions.
  • Expert witness testimonies, someone ideally in a supervisory or management position, confirming the work completed and able to provide witness statements.
  • Site Assessments, where an assessor will come to visit the site on at least one occasions check work being carried out and progress on the portfolio.

All of the evidence comes together to hopefully then prove your competence.

Courses Open To You After

If you dont have any Inspection and Testing qualifications, Able Skills offersC&G 2391-52 this will be a JIB requirement if you want to achieve an Approved status. In addition, you may want to consider the level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (C&G 2396).

Additional Info

The C&G 2357 NVQ requires that you can demonstrate and provide evidence installing a range of containment, equipment and wiring systems. At the very least for the containment, you need steel conduit, PVC conduit, steel trunking, PVC trunking and tray, flexes, singles, SWA, FP200 and T&E for the wiring systems. As well as a range of different types of equipment, distribution boards, isolators, sockets, switches, control systems and auxiliary equipment. Other containment and wiring systems of course can be used)

To achieve the NVQ (C&G 2357) in full, you will also need to undertake AM2 and dependent upon the qualifications you already hold, completion of a Bridging Unit may also be necessary. Please ask for guidance on this when you call or visit us.

AM2

TheAM2assessment (booked separately) is a mandatory unit within this qualification and can be completed at our dedicated AM2 centre in Dartford or at any AM2 centre of your choice, depending on where you are based in the UK. The test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by National Electrotechnical Training(NET), a registered UK charity that owns, manages and developsEnd Point Assessments and Assessments of Occupational Competence for theelectrotechnical industry.

Candidates will be expected to install, terminate, connect, inspect, test, commission and diagnose faults in accordance with the installation specification provided by the assessor and in accordance with the relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations on the following:

  • Lighting and power circuits
  • A three-phase distribution board and sub circuit
  • A central heating/sustainable energy system
  • A safety services circuit and device
  • A data cabling system
Duration & Cost

It is hard to allocate a time frame for the completion of Electrical NVQ level 3 as the assessments will only be undertaken when you are ready so its more about you than it is about us. A 3-year window for registration is allocated and deemed a reasonable time to expect to complete this NVQ process. The AM2 aspect can be completed in 3 days.

The cost for the 2357-44 is £1445.00 or £1645 if the 2357-91 route is required (see above for details)

The fees for NVQ can be paid in instalments:

  • To book a profiling session: £150.00
  • Registration/Certification etc: £350.00 (on the day of profiling) or £550 if you are undertaking the 2357-91 route.
  • Site visit/Portfolio evidence: £600.00
