Home Study Gold Card Electrician

This package of learning will get you to the point of being able to apply for a JIB Gold card and is delivered via a mix of Home Study, in-centre attendance and work-based assessment. If you are looking to start training as a qualified Electrician but you are unable to commit to a structured period of attendance at a training centre or college then the Home Study aspects of this package may be just what you need. The courses can be fitted in around your normal working life, allowing you the benefit of re-training to change your career with plenty of flexibility.

You will learn to be a fully qualified Electrician, starting with learning the fundamental requirements for undertaking electrical installations as well as information relating to the structure and organisation of the electrical industry via theC&G 2365 level 2, moving on to theC&G 2382-18- 18thEdition before then undertakingC&G 2365 level 3providing advanced study and covering scientific principles, fault diagnosis and rectification as well as receive an abundance of knowledge on inspection and testing and installation design. Once you have sourced work, you will be able to be assessed to achieveC&G 2357-44 NVQ level 3, including theAM2Assessment (Achievement Measurement 2).

All of these qualifications combined will enable you to eventually apply for a JIB Gold Card.

C&G 2365 level 2 Via Home Study.

We will send you a C&G 2365 level 2 study pack which will contain all of the theory knowledge units that you are required to achieve in order to gain the qualification. Also contained within the pack are self-assessment papers allowing you as the candidate to monitor your progress along the way. In addition to the pack, we will also provide you with the associated City & Guilds reference book as well as access toSmartscreen a City and Guilds online learning/assessment resource. Once you have completed your study or are at a point where you feel that you are ready to attend the centre, you will then need to contact us to book your time in-centre.We allocate 4 weeks of attendance to this level 2aspect and these 4 weeks can be broken up over a period of up to 2 years, to fit in with any ongoing commitments that you might have. Naturally, the attendance can also be condensed and achieved quicker if this suits you. During your attendance, you will undertake practical training and assessments and you will also undertake online exams, the knowledge for which you will have gained from the Home Study pack and associated documents.

C&G 2382-18 Wiring Regulations In-Centre attendance required.

The 18thedition course is aimed at those who require having a good working knowledge of BS 7671. The aim of this 3-day electrical training course is to gain familiarity with the layout, content, and application of the BS 7671: 2022 18th Edition Regulations. It is intended to ensure that on completion of this course, individuals are conversant with the format, content, and the application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2022 - 18th Edition Regulations. A basic understanding of electrical principles is recommended in order to be successful on this course.

Assessment for this course is by way of a 2-hour, open book, on-line exam.

C&G 2365 level 3 Via Home Study.

Once the level 2 has been achieved, will send you a C&G 2365 level 3 study pack which as before, will contain all of the theory knowledge units that you are required to achieve in order to gain the qualification. Also contained within the pack are self-assessment papers allowing you as the candidate to monitor your progress along the way. In addition to the pack, we will also provide you with the associated City & Guilds reference book as well as access toSmartscreen. Once you have completed your study or are at a point where you feel that you are ready to attend the centre, you will then need to contact us to book your time in-centre.We allocate 2 weeks and 2 days of attendance to achieve this level 3aspect and this time can be broken up over a period of up to 2 years, to fit in with any ongoing commitments that you might have. Naturally, the attendance can also be condensed and achieved quicker if this suits you. During your attendance, you will be undertaking aspects of practical training and assessment but there are also on-line and written exams to do and assignments all of which can be achieved based on the theory contained within this study pack.

C&G 2357-44 NVQ Work based assessment and AM2.

To achieve the NVQ, you will need to have access to work and build a portfolio of evidence to cover the units within the 2357. The evidence will need to include:

• Photographic evidence of the work being undertaken (not just finished work).
• Written evidence of what you are doing on site and how you are covering the various unit criteria.
• Document evidence including risk assessments, method statements, any other H&S information, test documentation, material schedules, permits, delivery notes, specifications, drawings,plans, diagrams and manufacturers instructions.
• Expert witness testimonies, someone ideally in a supervisory or management position, confirming the work completed and able to provide witness statements.
• Site Assessments, where an assessor will come to visit the site on at least two occasions, check work being carried out and progress on the portfolio.

The 2357 requires that you can demonstrate and provide evidence installing a range of containment, equipment and wiring systems. At the very least for the containment, you need steel conduit, PVC conduit, steel trunking, PVC trunking and tray, flexes, singles, SWA, FP200 and T&E for the wiring systems. As well as a range of different types of equipment, distribution boards, isolators, sockets, switches, control systems and auxiliary equipment. Other containment and wiring systems of course can be used.

The AM2 assessment is a mandatory unit within this qualification and can be completed at our dedicated AM2 centre in Dartford. The test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by National Electrotechnical Training(NET), a registered UK charity that owns, manages and developsEnd Point Assessments and Assessments of Occupational Competence for theelectrotechnical industry.

Candidates will be expected to install, terminate, connect, inspect, test, commission and diagnose faults in accordance with the installation specification provided by the assessor and in accordance with the relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations on the following:

• Lighting and power circuits
• A three-phase distribution board and sub circuit
• A central heating/sustainable energy system
• A safety services circuit and device
• A data cabling system

This package of learning covers everything you will need to achieve Gold Card JIB status and any additional qualifications would be personal choice, you may wish to consider theCity & Guilds 2391-52Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations before moving on to Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (City & Guilds 2396).

For the 2 Home Study aspects of this package, we will provide you with C&G textbooks to support the Home Study packs however, we do recommend that you also source yourself a copy of theOn-Site Guide (BS 7671:2018) (Electrical Regulations)as this will aid your learning immensely. Moving forward to the other courses, you will need to purchase the following books:

For C&G 2382-22:Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations, Eighteenth Edition, BS 7671:2018 (Electrical Regulations).

All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.

Duration

Once Home Study packs have been issued, we do recommend that you spend a minimum of 6 weeks study, per pack, before booking your time in centre.

Attendance for the C&G 2365 level 2 is allocated at 4 weeks, for the C&G 2365 level 3, its 2 weeks, and 2 days.

The C&G 2382 is 3 days.

The NVQ aspect is completed at a candidates own pace and is allocated a 3-year window for completion.

• A £500depositwill release the level 2 Home Study pack followed by 4 instalments of £500, payable each time a week of attendance is booked.
• £395 is payable for the C&G 2382-22
• A £500 deposit will release the level 3 Home Study pack followed by 3 instalments of £416.66, payable each time a week of attendance is booked.
• £1445 is the cost for the NVQ and again, can be paid in instalments.
• £960 is allocated to the AM2 and needs to be paid at the time of booking.
