Learn about the principles and practices of assessment and use a range of assessment methods to verify employees are competent in their job role. This course is designed to meet aviation industry requirements and also includes an option to add the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (RQF), which is recognised in the wider Education and Training sector.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Learners must be aged 19+ years to be enrolled onto this course. You must be in a position to assess learners in the work environment as part of this qualification. Ideally, you will have access to a qualified trainer or assessor in the workplace to act as a mentor.
Please note: course materials are provided in English and the practical assessment must be completed in English.
IATA AHM1110 states that anyone who assesses colleagues should be suitably qualified. This is a new requirement in Edition 44 (2024). This course provides a solution to meet that requirement. This may be an existing Trainer looking to add a specific assessor qualification, or it may be for an experienced colleague, Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager who will occasionally Assess the competence of staff as part of their role.
Why add the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace?
The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace is a nationally recognised assessor qualification. This qualifies the individual to assess in any work environment, including NVQs and Apprenticeships. It can also be upgraded to the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF), known as CAVA, formerly A1.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
The Aviation Assessor Certificate will be provided upon completion of the course, and if chosen, the Level 3 qualification certificate will also be awarded by the external awarding organisation after internal and external quality assurance.
Course delivery details
To complete the Aviation Assessor Certificate, candidates must:
- Pass a short online theory assessment, graded immediately.
- Provide evidence of a practical assessment completed in the workplace.
To complete the optional Level 3 qualification, candidates must:
- Complete a written assignment for unit 1. This is approximately 3,500 words, broken into smaller parts.
- Plan and carry out four assessments in the workplace, across at least two different people and two different topics.
- One of the four assessments is observed by your ATC Training tutor (using a recording).
- Take part in a professional discussion with your tutor and reflect on own performance.
Please note that this course can be offered as private In-House training for corporate groups.
The course can be completed in as little as a week, however, learners are provided access to the course for 12 months.
The course will take approximately 10-15 hours of study to complete, most people will finish it within a few weeks. If you add the Level 3 qualification, there are additional assessments, increasing the duration to approx. 50 hours. Typically, most people will complete within 3 months, although it can be completed much quicker.
