You will prepare and cook food in our industry-standard training kitchen of which some food will be sold to our restaurant The Chef's Hat, which is open to the public. This qualification covers the required skills and knowledge for preparing to work in the Hospitality & Catering Industry. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who work or want to work in the hospitality industry with a focus on becoming a professional chef. The following areas that can be covered within this qualification: Food safety in catering Introduction to employability in the catering and hospitality industry Health and safety awareness for catering and hospitality Introduction to healthier foods and special diets Introduction to kitchen equipment Prepare and cook food by boiling, poaching and steaming Prepare and cook food by stewing and braising Prepare and cook food by baking, roasting and grilling Prepare and cook food by deep frying and shallow frying Regeneration of pre-prepared food Cold food preparation Learners will complete all the above units to achieve the full qualification. This is a QCF qualification. You will also have the opportunity to gain real work experience at high profile events and when our restaurant is open to the public for Lunch or Dinner time.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You should have 2 GCSEs grades at E or above (including Maths and English)or have successfully completed an Entry Level qualification.
