Course description
This course is one of our eight Core Behaviours Introductory Programmes, which aim to provide you with the defining behaviours of our profession.
Ethical values provide the moral compass by which we live our lives and make decision. The way we make decisions is important for organisations because the wrong decisions – or decisions which have been implemented badly – can have a significant impact on people's lives and the reputation of organisations.
In this course, you will discover how, if we make decisions based on good principles, and live by good values, we can improve the lives of others and the experiences they have at work. It will help you to consider a range of perspectives, so that you can make responsible decisions as a result.
Through cutting-edge learning content, you will explore different forms of unethical behaviour, and some of their causes, as well as the implications of unethical behaviour. This will help you to be able to challenge unethical behaviour and encourage others to behave in an ethical way.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Make responsible decisions by considering different ethical perspectives, and finding the best possible way forward for all stakeholders
- Coach and influence managers and leaders to consider the implications of their decisions on stakeholders
- Face up to ethical dilemmas and challenging decisions and actions which are not ethical, explaining the organisational risks
- Encourage transparency in decision-making and communication where possible
- Visibly and consistently role-model professional principles, values and personal integrity to build trust and contribute to an ethical culture.

Course delivery details
This course has six lessons, which you can access flexibly. Available fully online, you can work through the lessons at your own pace and in whatever order you choose.
Each lesson is 30-45 minutes long and includes individual reflective and community activities to support the embedding of your learning into practice.
You will be able to access the course for 12 months from purchase and the CIPD Learning Hub will remain accessible to you for 24 months.
