Course description

At some stage in your career you will have to deal with a ‘vulnerable witness‘, be it because of PTSD, ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, learning disabilities, speech or hearing impediment, age or immaturity to name but a few.


This handy 1 hour introduction will give you an insight into the law and how to deal with and question a vulnerable witness. Topics discussed will include ground rules hearings and how to prepare for them, how to conduct the questioning with a degree of rapport and ensure it is at the right pace, avoiding how or why questions, avoiding tag or directive questions, identifying the behaviour of the witness so as to avoid distress, the law post R v Lubemba, and much more.


The webinar is presented by Ian Kelcey, a highly experienced solicitor-advocate and Joint Chair of the Law Society Criminal Law Committee.
