Since the watershed Supreme Court case on nationality deprivation involving Shamima Begum in 2021, Ms Begum’s deprivation appeal has now been heard and dismissed by Special Immigration Appeals Commission in February 2023.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department has continued its trend in recent years to use deprivation powers in an increasing number of cases.
