The International School of Linguists is an accredited Training Centre with over a decade of experience in delivering remote interpreting and translation qualifications to linguists in the UK and abroad.
All of our courses are Ofqual registered and accepted by key public service organisations, including the NHS, Social Services, Ministry of Justice, Police and Home Office.
Our training is delivered remotely and is available 24/7 through the use of our personal learning portal. Exams take place online, which means that learners can study and sit the exams from the comfort of their own home.
Once qualified, linguists can register to become self-employed interpreters and translators with agencies based in the UK and abroad. Interpreting work is available face to face and remotely, which makes interpreting a fantastic and flexible choice of career.
Types of Courses Offered
We offer a range of qualifications for interpreters. Those who are just starting out are recommended to take the Level 3 certificate. The Level 3 enables interpreters to register with agencies and work as a paid interpreters in the community setting (NHS, mental health, social services, local government) and it is the minimum requirement for the vast majority of clients. We have two options for the Level 3 preparation: self-study and tutor-led.
Beyond that, linguists can choose to take a Level 6 qualification, which is a longer and more thorough version of the Level 3. The Level 6 enables linguists to work for the police, courts and Home Office.
The Level 6 would not be recommended for complete beginners to the interpreting industry (unless learners opt for the coursework-based Level 6 DCI, which takes 9-12 months to complete). Alternatively, learners with more experience can choose to take the Level 6 DPSI exam with a self-study preparation course.
Finally, for those who want to focus on written translations only, we offer the Level 7 Diploma in Translation.
