Introduction
This virtual classroom seminar will cover the reasons for corporate reporting of environmental issues and greenhouse gas emissions and the legal requirements under the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic Report and Directors' Report) Regulations 2013 and the Companies (Director's Report) and Limited Liability Partnerships (Energy and Carbon Report) Regulations 2018.
Important developments have taken place in the EU. A proposal for a new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive appeared in April 2021 and the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Directive came into force in 2021. These may affect not only those operating in the EU but also the development of future UK legislation in this area.
Reporting obligations also arise under some UK and EU legislation in relation to accidents, spillages, breaches of permit conditions and other criminal offences. It is important to understand these as self- reporting goes against the grain of the normal enforcement process.
The seminar will provide coverage of the rules which must be understood by those advising companies on their duties under environmental law.
