Upon successful completion of this program the learners will equip skills needed to further their career as a tourism and hospitality professional as well to work toward a relevant Master’s programme with advanced standing.

Suitability - Who should attend?

For entry onto the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management qualification, learners must possess:

  • An honours degree in related subject or UK level 6 diploma or an equivalent overseas qualification
  • Mature learners (over 21 years) with management experience
  • International students whose first language is not in English, they will need to have score of 5.5 or above in IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

  • All the important management theories and models are covered in this course. As a result, the students will gain a better understanding of the various management techniques that are applicable in the workplace.
  • Will be helpful to the students to develop their problem-solving skills through the practical application of the various management models and theories.
  • A nationally – recognised qualification, the credits earned at this course can be transferred to other courses, if the students want to pursue MBA or any other Masters.
  • On successful completion of the course the students will be able to demonstrate their proficiency in the various management practices which will improve their chances of making a successful career progression.

Training Course Content

Unit1- Strategic Management and Marketing

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ ability to analyse the role of technology within the tourism and hospitality industry, including the evaluation of the impacts of latest and emerging technology on organisational operations. Learners will consider the emergence of the e tourism concept and analyse the influence of social media from both consumer and organisation perspectives.

Unit2- Destination Management

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ ability to analyse the role of tourism and therefore the visitor economy in modern international tourism destinations from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Learners will gain a critical understanding of broader perspectives required to manage and market tourism within the modern international city, and to implement their tourism and marketing strategies.

Unit3- International Tourism Policy and Development

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ critical understanding of the principles of tourism policy and how these relate to issues of development. Learners will evaluate theories of international development and apply these to a tourism context. Learners will also apply development indicators and create proposals for tourism projects to address development problems.

Unit4- E-Tourism and Social Media

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ ability to critically analyse the role of technology within the tourism and hospitality industry, including the evaluation of the impacts of new and emerging technology on organisational operations. Learners will consider the emergence of the etourism concept and analyse the influence of social media from both consumer and organisation perspectives.

Unit5- Organisational Behaviour in International Contexts

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of a spread of theoretical and empirical approaches to organisational behaviour within the tourism and hospitality industry. Learners will examine concepts of culture and its multifaceted impacts on managerial behaviour. Learners will review and analyse issues that managers must meet and resolve. Learners will gain a close grounding in managing in several cultural contexts and within the management of diverse individuals, groups and teams.

Unit6- Advanced Research Methods

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ research skills, examining and critiquing a spread of research paradigms and techniques, along with their application to tourism and hospitality research. The unit will provide learners with the abilities and knowledge required to spot and investigate problems and issues within tourism and hospitality and to use appropriate research methods.
