Overview
The course will be covering the law, practice and procedure on the following topics. Delegates will also have the opportunity to discuss and ask questions of our highly experienced tutor. Topics covered include:
- Public Child Care Cases and Emergencies
- Commencing Proceedings and Paperwork
- Contact Issues and Assessments
- Secure Accommodation and Deprivation
- Child Protection Conferences
- Use of Experts
- Care Planning Regulations
- Expectation of the Public Law Outline (PD12A) and its relaunch in 2023
- Purpose of Panels and Reviews.
- Special Guardianship and Parallel Planning
- Best practice guidance by the Public Law Working Group
The course will cover developments in case law and practice, with regard to developments such as consideration of cases as Re H (Care and Adoption – Assessment of Wider Family) 2019 EWFC 10, in terms of assessments, as well as A County Council v NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and others 2022 EWFC 31, regarding Adoption Agency Regulations.

This course will be of benefit to practitioners new to this area, or those needing to refresh their knowledge. This course may also be beneficial to social workers and case workers, as well as trainees, qualified solicitors new to this area, and support staff. Also suitable for local authority social workers, local authority budget holders, adoption panel managers, fostering panel managers, as well as social work practitioners.

- Understanding duties in relation to contact
- Explain the law and practice on contact, as well as duties and regulations
- Explain the law and practice on secure accommodation, and Deprivation of Liberty applications, and in particular, the statutory regulations and reviews
- Understand child protection conferences, what occurs, and steps thereafter.
- Describe different type of assessments, and how they fit together
- Understand ‘Working Together,’ Care Planning Regulations and Reviews
- Work effectively under the Public Law Outline
- Understand Panels and the purpose of them
- Explain the Adoption Agencies Regulations and ‘Parallel Planning’
PSC Elective
This course may be undertaken as a PSC elective, although it may also be attended by non-trainees.
