Course description

This one day course, module one, is intended to give guidance on the latest requirements for Temporary Works and the procedural control of ALL temporary works to the latest BS 5975:20008 A1:2011. Subjects will include understanding of scaffolders safe zones to SG4:10, scaffold designations, loads on tubes and fittings, use of compliance sheets in TG20:13. The loads on scaffolds, and simple falsework will be included, with fast track ideas for striking of slabs using crack width as the criteria, and the latest considerations involved in back propping of multi-storey buildings.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This programme is ideal for delegates that have responsibility for tasks related to the procurement, design, checking, inspection and approval of temporary works.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

On completion of this course, delegates will leave with an awareness of the latest advances in the subjects, together with an update on the basic principles.

Training Course Content

  • Brief update on the procedures and management of temporary works to BS 5975:2013, the register, duties of coordinators,designers, the roles of the TWC and the TWS (supervisors),
  • CDM regulations and guidance
  • Scaffolding to latest safe practice, TG20:13 - safe load capacities
  • Loads - scaffolding, falsework, loading towers, wind loads, concrete pressure on formwork
  • Hoarding design
  • Temporary works above ground, falsework to latest BS 5975 and BS EN 12812:Stability - design considerations
  • Striking flat slabs and backpropping multi-storey buildings

Course delivery details

This course will update delegates on current use of temporary works in building and civil engineering, and in particular give a basic understanding of stability.  Further modules are available on request.
