Course description

This course serves as an introduction to ITIL 4, the newest iteration of the ITIL framework. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of ITIL, including newly introduced features such as the Service Value System (SVS). The value of the framework for IT Service Management (ITSM) will also be covered, letting students understand the benefits of using the ITIL process in practice.

The course is designed to give students everything they need to sit and pass the ITIL Foundation examination. Successfully doing so will entitle students to move on to intermediate modules in either the ITIL Managing Professional (MP) or ITIL Strategic Leader (SL) groups. Students can prepare to sit the official examination using the two practice exams provided with the course, and we also offer 24/7 tutor support to help anyone who is struggling. Once a student is ready to sit the ITIL Foundation exam, they can also request a FREE exam voucher from the Good e-Learning Support Team.

This course is fully accredited by PeopleCert, which is licensed by AXELOS as an Examination Institute for delivering ITIL 4 Foundation qualifications in IT Service Management.

Does the course contain exams?

The course features two practice examinations designed to simulate the conditions of the official ITIL® 4 Foundation exam.

Once a student has completed the course and feels they are ready to sit their exam, they can contact the Good e-Learning Support Team to request a FREE exam voucher. They can then use this to take the ITIL® Foundation exam online via PearsonVue.

Exam structure

There are several points that students should keep in mind when preparing for the ITIL® 4 Foundation exam:

  • The exam features 40 Objective Test Questions (OTQs)
  • Each question features four options (students must select one)
  • There are 40 marks available, one for each question
  • Students must score at least 26 out of 40 marks (65%) in order to pass
  • The exam is one hour (60 minutes) long
  • Candidates taking the exam in a language other than their native or working language may be awarded 25% extra time (for a total of 75 minutes)
  • The exam is closed-book (candidates may only use materials provided with the exam itself)

Suitability - Who should attend?

The ITIL Foundation certification is primarily for newer students who are seeking an introduction to the framework. Students who have completed the ITIL Foundation module for ITIL V3 may also want to take this course in order to start again with the latest iteration of ITIL.

There are no prerequisites for taking this ITIL® 4 Foundation course.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

The ITIL Foundation module remains the starting point, giving students an introduction to the concepts and methodology behind ITIL, as well as a rundown of the ITIL lifecycle stages. After this point, however, users can go in one of two directions.

The first is ITIL Managing Professional (MP), which contains four modules:

  • ITIL Specialist – Create, Deliver & Support
  • ITIL Specialist – Drive Stakeholder Value
  • ITIL Specialist – High Velocity IT
  • ITIL Strategist – Direct, Plan & Improve

The second possible path is ITIL Strategic Leader (SL), the modules for which are:

  • ITIL Strategist – Direct, Plan & Improve
  • ITIL Leader – Digital & IT Strategy
