Course description

BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care Level 2:

This course will give you the experience you need to work in the health and social care sector or to progress in education. You will gain an understanding of the care sector and the services available within the health and social care fields. You will also develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective worker in the care sector.

Students will cover topics such as: communication in health and social care, vocational practice in health and social care, cultural diversity in health and social care and anatomy and physiology for health and social care. The course includes a work placement that will give you valuable practical experience. It is available for school leavers and adult learners.

Students will be assessed with projects, case studies, work based assignments, coursework and an externally assessed component. On completion, they can progress on to a range of further education course or apprenticeships after completing this course, including: BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 and Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care Level 2. Studens could find a career in the health and social sector working in one of the following roles: Care assistant with older people or people with disabilities, Nursery assistant, Support worker, Home care assistant and Health care assistant.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students need to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs with the following grades: 4 in English and and 3 in maths and 2 other GCSEs at grade D or above OR A minimum of four GCSEs grade D or above, including English language, and maths at grade E or above, or a level 1 qualification at pass or merit grade, English at level 1 and maths at entry level 3, AND a satisfactory interview.
