On this course you'll gain an insight into the different forms of sports journalism, and experience studio and location presenting!
Week 1 – Sports Journalism
Nottingham is the home of Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the Panthers Ice Hockey Team, the National Water Sports Centre and is the official City of Football for the UK.
Where better to learn the craft of sports journalism?
In this week you will learn how to write scripts for multimedia, including match reports and sports features and explore the way sports reporting uses social media and blogs.
You will learn interview techniques in the studio and on location, and how to construct and write sports features.
You will experience how a sports journalist works while visiting key sport venues in Nottingham.
At the end of this week you will have a good understanding of how to construct multimedia sports stories, be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and application of the practical skills relevant to sports journalism and be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a team.
Week 2 – Television Presentation Skills
Join this course to experience being a television presenter in a studio or on location!
You will be given basic voice training and performance coaching to enable you to feel relaxed and confident in the role of a presenter.
Tuition on script writing for bulletins, and experience multi-camera presentation will also be taught.
You will be taught in NTU’s Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism which houses an industry-standard broadcast suite.
You will experience live and location work including pieces to camera, learn interview techniques (both live and recorded), be given voice and performance coaching, and learn how to read an autocue.
At the end of this week you will understand how to plan, design and execute research in a range of areas that demonstrates your knowledge of television journalism, and communicate effectively and appropriately.
This course is part of the NTU Global Summer School, which attracts undergraduate students from around the world who are looking for extra credit.
However, attending for credit is optional.
